Core activities CVB

The core activity of CVB is to evaluate feedstuffs for farm animals and to establish energy and nutrient requirements for farm animals. CVB feed evaluation systems are science-based and transparent. Main activities of CVB are:

a.   Data collection on chemical composition of feedstuffs and feed materials

b.   Collection of data on digestibility of feedstuffs for different farm animal categories

c.   Development and updating of feed evaluation systems for farm animals, and of energy and nutrient requirements

d.   Publishing on a regular basis updated CVB Feed Tables with information on chemical composition, digestibility, and feeding values of feedstuffs for farm animals

The feeding values and nutrient requirements established by CVB may serve as a reference and benchmark by a number of user groups (such as feed producing companies, consultants, farmers, education and research institutes). Furthermore, because CVB feed evaluation systems are transparent and freely available, CVB provides a situation in which the various user groups can communicate with each other on feeding values of feedstuffs using a common language.

Wageningen University & Research (the Netherlands) & ILVO (Belgium) are executing the CVB program, supported by a technical committee with animal nutrition experts from different stakeholders.
